History and Purpose of this Website:

In 1999 I started a hobby called Summer Vacation 4 Kids.  I took a digital camcorder to just a few great parks and uploaded the videos and screen captures to my SV4Kids website.  I am now retired, and the new goal of SV4Kids is to create a photo and video gallery for every fun park in the entire world, with helpful photos and advice from people who have visited the parks.

Browsing the Website:

The navigation of my website begins with a table of fun on the 1st page.  The numbers in the table are a count of how many websites we have (so far) for that state.  Each column in the table can be sorted, or you can find a country like Italy by using the browser Find function.  Just click on the number in the column that interests you.  This will take you to a webpage for that state, like Fun Parks in California.

Now you will see a page of all the websites for that state, like all the fun parks in California.  If you would like to start your adventure by visiting the best and biggest amusement parks in the world, click on the by Type column.  For example, a type of A1 is the combination of Amusement Park and Water Park.  The rest of the Types are described at the bottom of the page.  You will also see a column for satellite maps (SM).  This feature lets you see the park layout first, before you visit each website.

Now comes the fun part.  As of New Years Day (Jan 1st 2008), I have links to over 450 photo galleries, hosted on Webshots and other services!  Oh yea.  And out of the 4278 Fun parks listed in SV4Kids, over 2000 are Amusement Parks and/or Water Parks.  For example, on the Dorney Park PA USA web page you will find a link to the official website, a link to the Webshots Photo Gallery, a link to the Google Sat/Photo Map, a link to a Google Earth file that has all the nearby attractions, a link to the local weather, and finally a set of links to the Nearby Attractions tables.  And (last but not least, and new for 2008), you will find Microsoft’s Virtual Earth Birds-eye-View where available.  For example, check out:

Cedar Point Amusement Park and Soak City Waterpark, Sandusky Ohio

Madrid Zoo and Aquarium, Spain

Air & Space Museum, Tucson Arizona

Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum, Manhattan New York

Mini-Golf, Anaheim California

Space Needle, Seattle Washington

Navy Pier, Chicago IL

Alcazaba Castle, Almeria Spain

Merida Roman Ruins, Spain

Each entry in the tables for Dorney Park has the distance in miles and kilometers, with a compass bearing for all you Boy/Girl Scouts!  You will also find a link to Google Maps giving you route directions (RD) to each nearby attraction, like your hotel or favorite restaurant.  So if Dorney Park looks too crowded, then you can try out Terry Hill Waterpark or Camelbeach Waterpark.  And as a service to you, I am building a massive list of hotels (free – no commissions), airports, restaurants, golf courses, summer camps and campgrounds.  Oh yea, it don’t get any better than this!

Using Google Maps:

Since 1999 I have used many mapping services to locate all the fun the world has to offer.  The problem was that I had to use far too many resources to cover the world, and copyright violation became a real issue when using private maps.  But once Google got into the map business it was easy to decide to just use Google Maps, with some help from MSN maps.  The reason is that Google always provides a minimum service to the entire planet.  So even if a street map is not available, and even if the Sat-Photo is low-resolution, I always provide you with a map of the location.  When a high resolution photo is available, Google Maps lets you see roller coasters and water slides from space!  Oh yea, check it out!  And best of all, I am making extensive use of Google Maps to help travelers locate hotels and restaurants near each attraction.

So, have fun looking at the Earth from Space, watch out for UFOs, eat your vegetables, and stay off the candy!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions not covered by the above topics.):

Q:   Is that girl in your videos married.  What a babe!

A:   She was 12 to 14yo during the hobby phase of this website, but she is now in college and married.  Sorry boys!

Q:   When I click on a map, it is high up off the earth, or I just get a street map, and I don’t see the amusement park.

A:   These are the rare cases where we have not been able to find the park, or a high resolution photo from space is not yet available.  For some reason, France has very few good Sat-Photos, except for Paris.  But Google is making improvements every month, so let us know if the photo changes to high resolution so that we can once again go hunting for that fun place to visit.

Q:   I have a question, but I’m afraid you’ll publish it, ‘cause it’s kind of silly.

A:   Don’t worry, we only publish general questions asked by lots of people.
